12/7/10- 8' of Powder @ Loon
From Loon Mountain 12/7/10
We received 8.5 inches of light, fluffy powder in the last 24 hours. Skiers and riders lucky enough to be here today are carving 22 trails and 2 parks of packed powder - that's 10 miles of white corduroy and elbow room to enjoy it.
The forecast is for seasonal temps and flurries/snow showers right through Friday. We're not leaving it all up to Mother Nature, either. Our new tower snowguns, which are making a big difference in the amount of early season terrain and snow quality we can provide, are blasting to pile up deep carpets and expand open terrain. Stay tuned to Loon's snow and trail reports, video and photos, and come join us.
Upcoming Events:
December 11-12: Ring in Winter - Don't forget to clean out your closets and bring your outgrown winter outwear to Loon's Octagon Lodge Winter Coats Collection to benefit the Salvation Army and local shelters.
December 18: Demo Day - Come test the latest equipment from Volkl, Salomon, Atomic, Nordica, Rossignol, Dynastar and more.
December 18-19: Santa on Skis - Santa will be here skiing. Catch up with him here and let him what you'd like for Christmas.
12/7/10- Sugarloaf get's 8-12" - 14 trails & 3 lifts open
From Sugarloaf 7:30 AM 12/7/10
Yesterday's snowstorm hit us harder than expected and this morning we're looking at roughly 8 inches of new snow here at the base and 12 inches up higher on the mountain. Snow continues to fall at this very moment, and we're expecting another inch or so throughout the day today.
Conditions on the hill today will certainly be the best we've seen so far this season, and we may see some ropes drop today as patrol gets up there and checks things out.
Three lifts are scheduled to operate for us today. Winds are a bit gusty which may affect lift operations.
Jay Peak gets 12-15" last night but still only 3 trails & 3 lifts open
From Jay Peak 6: 30 AM 12/7/10
Got to love being in the Northeast Kingdom. This latest storm came into northern Vermont through the "backdoor" from Maine, and has pounded us with 12"-15" of snow and it's still coming down. The storm is riding on the back of some strong winds so you will find 30" pockets of snow....and in some places you'll only find 10". Because the wind is sticking around, the Jet Triple may have a delayed opening. Stay tuned here for the latest.
TODAY'S PLAN: Spin the Triple, Queen's Highway T-bar, and Sun Kid carpet at 9:00 AM servicing the Haynes, Jet, Chalet Meadows, and the Learning Area.
The Metro Quad and Flyer will be opening up on Tramside this Friday. Trails such as Upper Goat Run, Lower Quai, Queen's Highway, Perry Merrill and the Interstate will be among the trails added for the weekend, connecting the two sides of the resort. Stay tuned because as natural snow increases more terrain will open.
